with a takeaway curry feast of the superlative. Here with the Valstar Brut Cuvée "Cuvee Millenaire" Varone (quite smooth and with buttery biscuit and a certain concentration due perhaps to maturity - delicious and was great with the spicy food. 3 bottles left in stock!) but we also tried the La Genevoisie 2000 Brut Chardonnay (very classic traditional method, still fresh as new, perhaps better with seafood or to drink on its own than with the curries. 12 bottles left)
Both in our bin ends section with 20% off (note: labels might show slight signs of age)

Try this today: Ried Vogelsang

Try this today: Ried Vogelsang

Heidi Schröck makes fabulous wines - aromatic, fresh and unique. Her Ried Vogelsang is a perfect example - a white aromatic blend which is just off dry. As aromatic as a dessert wine, but dry in the mouth. Fabulous on its own, as an aperitif, or with nibbles, it accompanies traditional schnitzel and escalopes, pasta in cream sauces (Carbonara, for example, or al' funghi), risottos, cheese platters and even mince pies! Try it!

Gift Idea: Unique sparkling wines

Gift Idea: Unique sparkling wines

Sparkling wine - a gift that says "celebrate!" - and we have very distinctive ones, in all colours!
Which can accompany a meal just as well as any wine, for that feeling of luxury. Try a red sparkling - the Pinot Noir Sekt is incredible, for example, or the Gamay from Beaujolais bursting with fruit. Or an aromatic white - a German Riesling, or Austrian Grüner Veltliner or for something even more unique, our swiss Chasselas from Mont sur Rolle. Cheers!

Wines to love and share with loved ones. Great red Beaujolais, a lovely white and rosé - and a fun sparkling Gamay. Don't miss them!

One ouf our recommended wines for Christmas turkey this year: the Triebaumer Blaufränkisch. A very generous and juicy red that is indeed perfect with poultry and roast, but can handle stronger meat, spicy food, and stay around for cheese. A sure winner, find it here.

We have been added to independent review site Feefo. If you have placed an order recently, you might receive a request for feedback for our company and our wines. Thanks for taking the time to let us know how we are doing.

Sad newsSad news
With sadness we must announce that the original founder of this business, Nick Dobson, died on September 2nd, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. We will pass any messages and tributes we receive to the family and there is a tribute thread UK wine pages. He will be very much missed by many in the wine trade and beyond.

Nick had retired from the business in February 2012 for health reasons, after selling the business to Joelle Nebbe-Mornod.

This one evolved into a fascinating white. A puzzle at first, what could it be? There's buttery richness, spice and vanilla and some smoky licorice, then yellow plums and pineapple - and in the end yellow apple, and you recognise a Grüner Veltliner.2006 Goldjoch, R&A Pfaffl

Friday Wine: Graacher Domprobst Riesling SpätleseFriday Wine: Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese
By Philips Eckstein. This is an interesting one: high sugar balanced by high acidity, resulting in an 8% alcohol off dry wine that can accompany a meal - we had half with a balti and the other half with a chinese stir fry. Enjoy!

Mid Week Wine: Vinhao Branco
This 2007 Portuguese white still has it all. Very exotic, well balanced, it just stays interesting throughout. We had it with a cod and smoked haddock chowder on a chilly night, it brough the sunshine right in. The wine will keep well, but try it now

Oldie of the Week: Visperterminen Fendant 2006.
The weather yesterday turned to near wintery rain and wind, so we changed our dining plans to Cheese Fondue! It was a very pleasant aperitif wine and wonderful with the fondue. In spite of the age, it hasn't lost fruitiness or the slight Fendant fizz, and if anything it was more aromatic than it has been when it was young. At this age there could be variation between bottles. Only 5 left, in bin ends, discounted

Have you tried... Chiroubles 2007 Cuvée Fernand Janin
In my conversations with Jocelyne Depardon, who makes this wine, she mentioned that her 2007 wines "goûten très bien" and edge into Burgundy territory. I must agree she's mostly right when it comes to this one. It tastes "très bien" indeed. At 5 years of age it has lost some of the Beaujolais Gamay fruitiness, but, this being Chiroubles, remains mellower and less Burgundian than some of the other 2007, with a nice length and a spcy finish but no attempt to take over the world. Try it

Amazing bottle of the day - April 26
Gelber Muskateller 2009 Heidi Schröck.I can almost guarantee that when you drink this wine for the first time, there will be this moment where eyebrows go up and you will look at each other around the table.. "what *was* that?".
Amazingly aromatic nose, orange blossoms and elderflower, herbal notes - a medieval medicinal garden under the summer sun - and a hint of citrus - and totally dry muscat notes in the mouth. We had it with a marinated roast beef platter and it worked beautifully. Get some before I decide to keep it all

March 30th - Gorgonzola Risotto Challenge

March 30th - Gorgonzola Risotto Challenge

(Joelle) My husband challenged me to pick a wine to go with an improvised Gorgonzola and smoked Pancetta risotto. 5 minutes before meal time!

I had Heida in the fridge, planned for another occasion, but I thought it would be the best match. A bit overkill perhaps (and that Heida could be kept many more years) but it worked beautifully - the wine was perfect to cut through some of the creaminess withour overpowering or fighting with the dish's flavours. The strong and salty Gorgonzola brought out sweetness and aromas I hadn't noticed in that Heida in the glass prior to eating.

Blue cheese sure suits Heida - Get the wine
