| Sad news With sadness we must announce that the original founder of this business, Nick Dobson, died on September 2nd, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. We will pass any messages and tributes we receive to the family and there is a tribute thread UK wine pages. He will be very much missed by many in the wine trade and beyond. Nick had retired from the business in February 2012 for health reasons, after selling the business to Joelle Nebbe-Mornod. |

![]() | Oldie of the week This one evolved into a fascinating white. A puzzle at first, what could it be? There's buttery richness, spice and vanilla and some smoky licorice, then yellow plums and pineapple - and in the end yellow apple, and you recognise a Grüner Veltliner.2006 Goldjoch, R&A Pfaffl |

| Austrian Gold - Grüner Veltliner £1 off per bottle, 1 week only. Try some today! |
| Friday Wine: Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese By Philips Eckstein. This is an interesting one: high sugar balanced by high acidity, resulting in an 8% alcohol off dry wine that can accompany a meal - we had half with a balti and the other half with a chinese stir fry. Enjoy! |
![]() | 2007 and 2008 Beaujolais added to Bin End Sale Wines from all Crus and from many of our best producers - for drinking and enjoying now. There's even a few older ones at a bigger discount. A good way to bide you over until the new stock comes in 6 weeks or so. Santé! |
| Mid Week Wine: Dornfelder 2009 Kollmann-Lex A lovely and surprising wine, dark colour and almost green herbal in the nose. Here with Schnitzel - but chicken, turkey and all sausages would be happy company. Try it! |
| Mid Week Wine: Vinhao Branco This 2007 Portuguese white still has it all. Very exotic, well balanced, it just stays interesting throughout. We had it with a cod and smoked haddock chowder on a chilly night, it brough the sunshine right in. The wine will keep well, but try it now |
| In the mood for... Rosé All our rosé wines and blush wines in one place. The full range from dry to sweet, from light to powerful, and some sparkling Rosé wines. Bottles from France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Germany and Israel. On to the wines... | ![]() |
| This week try... Blaufränkisch Blaufränkisch makes a fruity and spicy red wine that is graceful, spicy, complex and has enough acidity to remain refreshing. | ![]() |
| Oldie of the Week: Visperterminen Fendant 2006. The weather yesterday turned to near wintery rain and wind, so we changed our dining plans to Cheese Fondue! It was a very pleasant aperitif wine and wonderful with the fondue. In spite of the age, it hasn't lost fruitiness or the slight Fendant fizz, and if anything it was more aromatic than it has been when it was young. At this age there could be variation between bottles. Only 5 left, in bin ends, discounted | ![]() |
| Find your wine - Austrian Whites Know you want a Riesling or Grüner Veltliner? Had a good Muskateller and want to check a few more? Or just curious and wanting to discover the diversity? |
| On Facebook: photos of our Vie Vinum and Austria trip During our Austrian trip we revisited past and present winemakers and found some new stars. We're gradually uploading photos and notes - for example a tasting at the Zull winery. The full list of producers we visited, wine we tasted and the wines we will be getting in at the end of the summar will appear here and on Facebook. |
| We're at VieVinum 2012 - and we have deals While most of you in the UK are enjoying a long Jubilee week end, we're working hard at Vie Vinum in Vienna - meeting with our winemakers, sampline new unique wines to bring to the UK. We will need to make some space for the new wines that will be on their way to us later in the summer, so we have some time limited special offers here and on facebook. |
| As seen on TV Cabernet Sauvignon Sekt. Seen on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch. A lively and rather unique rosé Sparkling ... get some for yourself. To the wine | ![]() |
| On facebook: our recent Beaujolais trip In May we went to the Beaujolais region to visit our winemakers and taste the new vintages. For more information about wines, winemakers, pictures and at times a lively discussion, join us on our facebook page. |
| New Arrivals from Austria I'm delighted to announce new wines from Carnuntum, Kamptal, Kremstal, Traisental, Vienna, Weinviertel - from new stars and firm favorites. Also, 2010 Alzinger vintages finally listed and Heidi Schröck's Ausbruch back in stock. Phew! Go to the wines | ![]() |
| Have you tried... Chiroubles 2007 Cuvée Fernand Janin In my conversations with Jocelyne Depardon, who makes this wine, she mentioned that her 2007 wines "goûten très bien" and edge into Burgundy territory. I must agree she's mostly right when it comes to this one. It tastes "très bien" indeed. At 5 years of age it has lost some of the Beaujolais Gamay fruitiness, but, this being Chiroubles, remains mellower and less Burgundian than some of the other 2007, with a nice length and a spcy finish but no attempt to take over the world. Try it |
| Amazing bottle of the day - April 26 Gelber Muskateller 2009 Heidi Schröck.I can almost guarantee that when you drink this wine for the first time, there will be this moment where eyebrows go up and you will look at each other around the table.. "what *was* that?". Amazingly aromatic nose, orange blossoms and elderflower, herbal notes - a medieval medicinal garden under the summer sun - and a hint of citrus - and totally dry muscat notes in the mouth. We had it with a marinated roast beef platter and it worked beautifully. Get some before I decide to keep it all |
