Our Range of German Wines

Welcome to the German section of our wine catalogue. German wines are amongst the world's finest, and we are pleased to offer a range of wines from top-notch producers in the Mosel, Nahe, Rheinhessen, and Rheingau regions.  German wines have suffered from an image problem in the UK, due in large part to misconceived wine laws which have encouraged the mass production of cheap wines which have had little to do with quality. More recently however a new breed of dynamic quality-conscious winemaker has emerged, whose goal is to make wines with the maximum possible concentration of aroma and flavour. This is achieved through deliberately low yields, and late and selective picking for maximum ripeness.  Currently all the wines we offer are white, principally Rieslings made in the fruit-driven style.

Bernkastel in the heart of Mosel wine country, Germany

German Sampler Cases German Sampler Cases
A small selection of sampler cases offering a good way of getting to know the wines from this historic winemaking country.
German Sweet Wines German Sweet Wines
Superlative Prädikat wines from small quality-focused producers in the Mosel; Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein - we've got the lot! Liquid gold........
Mosel Mosel
We offer an excellent range of wines from without doubt one of the finest German wine regions - and certainly one of the most beautiful. We have whites (mainly Riesling) , reds (Pinot Noir and Dornfelder), Sekt, and Eiswein from several small producers whose products are of high quality and who offer outstanding value for money. We also feature upmarket wines from the respected Dr. Loosen estate just outside Bernkastel-Kues, and also from superstar Willi Schaefer in Graach, one of the finest makers in the region.
Rheinhessen Rheinhessen
We offer Rheinhessen wines from the Gunderloch estate, run by Fritz and Agnes Hasselbach. The estate has vines in the world-renowned Rothenburg vineyard, where the proximity to the river Rhine, the red slate soils, and the steep slope provide a perfect microclimate for the Riesling grape.
Rheingau Rheingau
Astonishing Rieslings from one of the best producers in the region, and, some say, in Germany. We offer wines from Johannes Leitz at Rüdesheim.
Nahe Nahe
Wines from the Nahe are not often found in the UK, but are amongst the best in Germany. We have a small range of wines from Helmut Dönnhoff of the Dönnhoff Estate in Oberhausen, who was voted German Winemaker of the Year in 1999 by both Gault Millau and Feinschmecker Magazine.
Pfalz Pfalz
Some great non-Riesling wines from the J L Wolf Estate, Wachenheim, Pfalz. This estate is owned by Ernst Loosen, of the famed Dr. Loosen estate in Bernkastel in the Mosel. Current selections include a great Pinot Blanc and a German red made from the Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grape.
