We offer an extensive range of Beaujolais wines, one
of the most comprehensive in the UK, including Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, and wines from all ten Beaujolais
Crus - the best wines of the district, each with its
own distinct character and style. Some you may know, but others you may not
have heard of. The Crus are Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly,Chénas, Chiroubles, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, and last but not least,
romantically named Saint-Amour. Beaujolais is principally
a red wine, made using the Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc grape
- which comes into its own and produces classic wines on the granite soils
of the Beaujolais; tiny amounts of Beaujolais Blanc and
Beaujolais Rosé are also made, and we offer both.
We also normally offer Beaujolais Nouveau, the new wine released
in November after the harvest. The fine Beaujolais wines we offer are truly
superb products - real gems, hand-crafted with flair by some of the best small-scale
producers in the region. So go on - try some - we know you will enjoy them.
Beaujolais Nouveau In 2007 we again offer new season wines from Jean-Paul Devay at Le Breuil, and Vincent Lacondemine at Beaujeu. Both of these makers produced really lovely wines in 2006, and they were well received by the market. Quantities are limited, and we are operating on a reservation system again, so please send expressions of interest as soon as possible. Full offer details will be published in October - sign up for our mailing list to ensure you receive notification.
Beaujolais Carefully chosen wines, each of great character, from small Domaines in the southern part of the Beaujolais region.
Beaujolais Villages A good range of Beaujolais Villages wines in a variety of styles - light and fruity, traditional, traditional, and oak-aged, all from excellent producers
White and Rosé Crisp juicy Beaujolais Blanc, and some the most elegant Rosés I have ever tasted.
Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly Splendid wines from the granite slopes of a beautiful dormant volcano, Le Mont Brouilly, all gushing fruit and with beautiful Gamay aromas
Chénas Serious Chénas wines of character from small producers, with a choice of styles - traditional, and heavyweight oak-aged examples.
Chiroubles Light elegant Chiroubles, cherry-red and bursting with fresh Gamay flavours, ideal for white meats and pork.
Fleurie A fine range of Fleurie wines, from small producers and in a variety of styles ranging from light and fruity to heavyweights. Serious stuff.
Juliénas A wide choice of Juliénas wines, from small producers in this appellation which is relatively unknown in the UK. From classic Juliénas through to a more mature oaked example. Great Sunday lunch wines.
Morgon Super examples from this most robust appellation; one classic Morgon, one heavyweight Vielles Vignes, and one mature example.
Moulin-à-Vent A wide range of excellent Moulins, all chunky full-bodied wines, all from excellent producers. Some mew ones for laying down, plus a few more mature examples ideal for drinking now. All will keep well.
Régnié The most recently created Cru, Régnié wines are normally a fine cherry-red colour, with aromas dominated by red berries and cherries.
Saint-Amour Saint-Amour - for the amorous amongst you, the wine of love.
